Quick and Easy Smoothie

Since having my daughter Lilly, there are very few times when I can sit and enjoy a full meal.  Remember that line in Christmas story, "My mother hasn't had a hot meal in 15 years?"  Well, I now understand why.

And forget about cooking anything too complicated.  It's impossible to spend too much time chopping and prepping with a 3 month old on my hip.

So, I was intrigued by the whole juicing craze thats going on right now.  There are lots of variations, but I need to have something to bite into.  Committing to any sort of fast just wouldn't work for me.

Then, one of my favorite sites, Skinny Taste, posted a recipe for the Green Monster Smoothie and I thought that maybe I could use that on the days where I just don't have time to sit and eat something healthy.  I have to be honest, the look and the list of ingredients made me cringe a little but I gave it a whirl anyway.

And you know what?

It's actually GOOD.  You don't even taste the spinach but you get all the nutrition it offers.  My toddler even tried it and liked it!  (Don't worry, she ate a normal lunch but she just had to try my green drink!)

My husband wasn't a fan but he apparently doesn't like the taste of peanut butter (crazy!) so yesterday I omitted the peanut butter and threw in bananas and strawberries.... DELISH!

I'm glad I gave it a try and hopefully will be experimenting with different fruits and veggies.  If you're looking for some great recipe ideas that are low fat and diet friendly, I definitely recommend Skinny Taste.  Almost everything I've tried has been good but my favorites are the Chicken Rollatini and Ricotta Muffins.... mmmmmm!

What are your 'go to' recipes?  Do you have a favorite recipe site?

The Why, The How, The Ugly

The Why:

Because my belly jiggles.

Because my arms jiggle.

Because my thighs resemble tree trunks.

Because my butt just keeps going and going and going.

Because my calves don't fit in some boots.

Because I want to be healthier, in body and mind.

Because 40 extra pounds is way too much to carry around.

Because I refuse to buy pants that are any bigger than the fat pants I currently own.

The How:

My goal is to find a way to enjoy food, which I enjoy ALOT, without over doing it.  I want to retrain my body to eat less and move more.  I want to get rid of all the excuses that have held me back for so long.

My plan is to take chances on foods.  Try things that I normally would have turned away from.  Healthy foods, in all different colors.  It's no wonder I'm hungry, I tend to leave out 2 main food groups:  fruits and veggies.

My plan is to MAKE time to work out 5 days a week.  Even if it's just 10 minutes of cardio.  This will be the hardest part for me since I have 2 little ones and there are very few moments when one of them isn't up between the hours of 6 am and 9:30 pm.

The Ugly:

My weight as of today is 171.5 lbs.  (I can not believe I just wrote that and am officially declaring myself insane for blogging about my fatness!)

Now that I've committed myself to riding the crazy train, let's see more of the ugly:

Upper Arms:  13.25
Waist:  34
Hips: 47.75
Thigh:  27
Calves:  16

Ok, that was scary!  But now it's done and hopefully that's the last time I have to look at those numbers.  I also hope that I measured myself accurately because there was no way that I was going to ask my husband to help me.  Love is blind and I don't want him to know that my calves may be bulkier than his.

There you have it:  my why, my how, and my ugly.  Feel free to share yours with me!  Let's say good bye to fat pants together!
